Seeing ‘My Google Business Profile has been suspended’ can be worrying, particularly for businesses that rely on phone calls and direction requests. The first step is not to create a new listing or change every detail. First establish which profile and decision the notification concerns.
This guide explains assessment, preparation and follow-up for clinics, hotels, restaurants, shops and local service businesses. Not appearing in search does not, by itself, prove that a profile is suspended. The solution should follow the status shown in the dashboard and Google's specific decision.
Distinguish suspension, verification and visibility issues
Applying a procedure to the wrong problem wastes time. Sign in to the Google Account associated with the business, then compare the profile management area with the notifications received. Save the full wording shown on screen.
Find the dashboard message first, then follow the appropriate section below. A profile not appearing in search does not necessarily mean it has been suspended.
1. If it says ‘Verify your business’
The business needs verification. Follow the verification steps offered in your dashboard.
2. If verification is under review
Check when you submitted it. Look for requests for additional information in your email and dashboard. This status is not, by itself, a suspension decision.
3. If it says ‘Suspended’ or ‘Disabled’
A restriction has been imposed on the profile. Read the reason and linked policy, then use the official appeal process.
4. If only a photo, post or edit was rejected
First review the notification for that rejected content. Do not confuse rejection of an individual item with suspension of the entire profile.
5. If another account manages the profile
This may be an access or ownership issue. If you are authorized to manage the business, review the steps for requesting ownership of the existing profile.
6. If the profile is active but you cannot find it on Google
Search for the business's full name together with its city. Then check the management dashboard for verification or restriction notifications.
In brief: Use verification steps for a profile awaiting verification, the appeal process for a suspended profile, and ownership steps for a profile managed in another account.
Why can a Google Business Profile be suspended?
Google may restrict profiles that do not comply with its policies. However, knowing only your most recent change is not enough to identify the exact reason. Read the policy link in the decision and assess all profile details within that framework.
Business name, location, authority to represent the business and business type are key areas to review. The Google Business Profile policy overviewis the official starting point for these checks. Do not assume that every sector and business model has identical requirements.
Compare the name and address with real records
Ask the owner for current official information. If the website, signage and documents use different names, investigate why. Work from verifiable information rather than mixing an old address with new details or treating marketing phrases as the business identity.
Describe the business model correctly
A business that receives customers at its address is not assessed in the same way as a service business that visits customers. Google's address and eligibility requirements can vary by model. Do not use an address merely to gain wider visibility; reflect how the business actually operates.
An initial assessment for the first 30 minutes
The following sequence is our suggested workflow, not a mandatory Google timetable. The aim is to organize information rather than rush an application.
- Confirm the correct accountMatch the managed profile's name and address to the access account.
- Record the decisionNote the notification wording, date, policy link and any existing support reference.
- Compile the change historyList recent changes such as address, name or ownership. Do not label them as the definite cause.
- Assign responsibilityMake clear who will provide documents and who will follow the process between the owner and agency.
Several employees changing a profile simultaneously makes information harder to track. Keeping actions in one record during the review makes it easier to understand what happened later.
How should you prepare documents before appealing?
Google's suspension help page lists business registration, licences, tax documents and business utility bills as examples of supporting evidence. The name and address should match the profile. This does not mean that every document type is required in every application.
Check that documents are current and readable. Organize files with clear names such as ‘licence’ or ‘address evidence’. Explaining which file supports which information also helps keep your application orderly.
- Do the files open and show complete pages?
- Does the document relate to this business and its current address?
- Have differences between the document and profile information been explained?
- Have old and new versions of the same file become mixed up?
- Has the person supplying the documents confirmed authority to share them?
Do not alter documents or manufacture evidence. Use Google's relevant official submission channels instead of uploading sensitive business documents to public forums.
How do you appeal a Google Business Profile decision?
Proceed from Google's guide to fixing suspended profiles to the official appeal tool. Select the relevant account and profile, read the decision, complete the available evidence fields, and check your explanation and attachments before submitting.
At the time this article was checked, the suspension guide described uploading evidence within the appeal. Another Google help page described a separate evidence form and a 60-minute window. Prepare documents in advance and follow the form and time-limit instructions shown in your account. Do not assume every user sees the same screen or rely on an old video tutorial.
What should the appeal explanation say?
Keep it short, specific and consistent with the documents. State the business activity and location; explain what you checked regarding the decision and any actual correction made. Describe verifiable circumstances rather than asking the review team for a general exception.
Example structure: ‘[Business name] carries out [actual activity] at [address]. We reviewed the issue stated in the notification. [Actual check or correction performed]. The attached [document] supports [business name/address/activity]. We request reassessment of the profile based on this information.’
This wording is neither an acceptance guarantee nor a ready-made defence for every situation. Do not claim to have made a correction that never happened; limit the explanation to your decision and genuine evidence.
What should you do after submitting an appeal?
Google's guide to content and profile restrictionssays not to submit multiple appeals for the same issue while awaiting a decision. Creating a new profile for the same business is not a substitute for the review process either.
Record the submission date, account used and any case reference. Monitor emails and the status shown by the tool. If more information is requested, respond consistently with earlier information through the official channel linked to the application.
You can keep dates, actions, documents and responses in one tracking sheet. It does not replace the official decision, but helps internal coordination. For businesses with several branches, be especially clear about which decision concerns which location.
How should you prepare if video verification is requested?
This video is not a promotional film. Google's official video verification instructionsrequire a recording demonstrating location, actual business activity and authority to represent it, according to the business model. Recorded through the profile on a mobile device, the video must be continuous and unedited and last at least 30 seconds; you cannot upload a previously edited film.
Plan your route before recording. A video starting outside might show identifiable surroundings, followed by suitable areas demonstrating the business and your authority. Assess in advance what can be shown given private areas and personal data.
- Check the phone's battery and connection.
- Review camera, microphone and location permissions.
- Have an authorized person ready to access the necessary areas.
- List the information to show along the route in advance.
- Protect the privacy of customers, patients and employees.
Google asks that the video exclude other people's faces and private data such as identity or bank details. Take particular care not to capture patient files in clinics or reservation screens in hotels. If the video is rejected, review the deficiencies reported in the dashboard and record a new one accordingly.
How long does verification take?
Google's general verification guide says review can take up to five business days and, rarely, longer. Do not interpret this as a guaranteed completion time for every suspension appeal.
Google determines the verification method; the same options may not be available to everyone. A request to verify again should be considered alongside the action history. Rely on dashboard and email notifications, and do not treat elapsed time as automatic approval or rejection.
If the appeal is rejected or the profile is missing from the tool
Read the rejection message and any options for further review. Google's suspension guide explains additional review with further evidence for rejected reinstatement requests. Try to understand the rejection and missing information rather than resubmitting the same text from different accounts.
If the tool does not show the profile, check your account, profile access and decision type first. An account-level restriction and a decision on one profile are not the same procedure. If unresolved, use the support options in the official help flow and retain your existing case details.
Common mistakes that complicate the process
- Changing all business details without reading the notification.
- Copying another business's documents or explanation.
- Having different employees pursue the same issue separately.
- Attaching private documents to public support posts.
- Confusing profile verification with an advertising account problem.
- Retrying the same verification video without reviewing its deficiencies.
- Acting on promises of ‘guaranteed reinstatement’ or ‘same-day resolution’.
An agency's role is to check information, organize preparation and help follow the official process. It cannot decide on Google's behalf or guarantee a particular review result.
Checklist after the profile is reinstated
Complete your internal records when the profile reopens. Review current access permissions, contact information and actual opening hours. Recording how the previous issue was addressed helps with later changes.

Frequently asked questions
My Google Business Profile is suspended. What should I do first?
Confirm that you are in the right account and read the full notification. Record the reason, review profile details and documents, make appropriate corrections, then follow the official appeal flow.
Is suspension the same as awaiting verification?
No. Verification checks business representation and information. Suspension or disabling is a separate restriction decision. Do not diagnose the issue from missing visibility alone; check the dashboard status.
Can I solve this by opening a new Google Business Profile?
Creating another profile for the same suspended business is not Google's recommended solution. Follow the existing profile's official correction and appeal process.
Can I record the verification video beforehand and upload it?
Google's instructions require a live, uninterrupted recording through the Business Profile flow on a mobile device. A prepared or edited promotional video cannot replace it.
Can acceptance of an appeal be guaranteed?
No. Google controls review and reinstatement decisions. Document preparation and consistent information can support the process, but no agency can guarantee reinstatement or a deadline.
